Minden to Hameln

Rattenfängerhaus, 1602

This was a repeat of the ride two years ago, in very similar weather and terminating at the same comfortable hotel in time to watch Germany losing to South Korea. (Which immediately made all the Weltmeisterschaft displays in the shops look redundant.)

I like seeing the Weser Renaissance buildings in Hameln again – that mixture of pilasters and capitals, decorated stone bands and elaborate gables. I have discovered “bossage” – building with uncut stone that protrudes beyond the plane of the wall, to be cut or carved later. There are plenty of stone profusion on the Rattenfängerhaus.

About aides mémoires

This is a chronological list of things I have seen, places I have visited, and thoughts that have wandered through the space between my ears. A reading group of one; an art appreciation society limited by my preferences and prejudices; opera criticism by one who knows nothing about the subject.
