April Fool

I thought I had spotted the April Fool’s joke in today’s Observer: a short item about the 1968 Eurovision sing contest along with a photo of Cliff Richard singing “Congratulations”. There were comments from the general public of 1968, including this (surely made-up) one:

Another woman: “I always watch. I thought that nice girl with the bunions put up a very good show for us last year.”

But no. The real April Fool’s joke was far less amusing.

About aides mémoires

This is a chronological list of things I have seen, places I have visited, and thoughts that have wandered through the space between my ears. A reading group of one; an art appreciation society limited by my preferences and prejudices; opera criticism by one who knows nothing about the subject.
