Bird listening

DSC_0200

A guided walk this morning to listen to birdsong. It was very windy, so most of the singers took shelter and hence were difficult to spot. I saw a chiffchaff and a singing blackcap (throat going like a bel canto singer), but I can’t yet recognise birds purely from their songs. The chaffinch was surprisingly melodious and the wren surprisingly loud (with a trill). I realised that in the garden I hear more bird calls than song, since they visit to eat rather than to nest.

PS  Two adult hedgehogs in the garden the other evening. Could there be hoglets shortly?
