Owls and lawns

I was quite excited a couple of months ago to hear a tawny owl regularly. Each evening and again in the early hours. Once I even saw it. Then – even more excitement – there were two owls hooting. Now, after being kept awake by them from 5.00 a.m. onwards a few times, I’m wondering if one can have too much excitement.

No matter – spring is coming. I’ve trimmed all currant bushes, potashed all fruit trees, cut back last year’s growth in the flower beds, planted shallots for the first time, and started my campaign on ground elder. I even gave the lawn a very light cut yesterday.
