RSPB garden birdwatch

The nuthatch and the female blackcap showed up for the birdwatch, so the tally for half an hour at the front and half an hour at the back was:

Great tit 1, blue tit 2, coal tit 1, collared dove (in their usual spot in the tree overhanging the back garden) 2, chaffinch 3, goldfinch 3, robin 1, dunnock 1, blackbird 1, magpie (piece of bread in its mouth) 1, nuthatch 1, female blackcap 1.

There was a long-tailed tit on the feeder an hour before I began but I didn’t feel I could claim it.

I wonder if I should try to make the some of the hedges more of a thicket to encourage nesting and to discourage next door’s cat?
