T S Eliot

How come I never bothered with T S Eliot once I’d read Old Possum? Thank you, Radio 4, for holding my hand and leading me to him today. Jeanette Winterson and Martha Kearney introduced the first programme, and Winterson reassured listeners that it didn’t matter if we couldn’t understand Eliot. Phew!

Jeremy Bridges read the poems well, making them conversational and interesting and rendering the rhyming, assonant sounds beguiling.  Eliot’s mixture of the quotidian and cosmic entertained and intrigued me.

Well, that’s my New Year’s resolution sorted.
