Ornamental cherry

It is so cold at present – sleet this afternoon – that I feel the following blooms deserve a medal:


As usual, the forget-me-nots are running riot and form a hazy blue backdrop to everything:


I have discovered what is happening to the lawn clippings – now straw-like – with which I had covered the potato mounds: blackbirds are taking them for a nest in the top left-hand corner of the conifers. They don’t fly directly back to the nest if they notice me watching them: they zig-zag back in stages.

New is slowly replacing old in the hedge:


and my most hated seedlings are cropping up everywhere:
